Still viable?

Read on to discover which action camera may work better for you needs!

There’s no doubt the market is ripe with good action cameras today! We will be reviewing both the Ace Pro 1st gen and Ace Pro 2nd gen action camera models. Read on to find out why you should choose an Ace Pro 2 model over the 1st generation model.

It’s obvious that Insta360 has been around for a while now. They have a nicely filled out line of action cameras, 360 cameras and even specialty VR cameras now. Let’s specifically examine the Ace Pro line of cameras as they are simpler to use and offer lots of features for various kinds of photographers and tech savvy vacationers.

Features, features, features. No, seriously these things are loaded with features which I believe many take for granted. Let’s examine the many reasons why someone would benefit from getting an Ace Pro 2. Firstly, the 8K video support and proven great 4K resolution options with great lowlight performance. Ace Pro’s are also waterproof and are perfect for recording your nature photography excursions (my reason for using them) or if you want a compact point and shoot vacation camera you can take everywhere. There is also decent amount of preset color profiles to choose from. The flip screen is another big feature often overlooked on the Ace Pro 2, a lot of other brands still lack flip screens. It is honestly very convenient to be able to monitor your framing and settings from both sides of the camera. Finally, the voice and gesture control are very useful when you're on the move or you have other equipment your trying control at the same time in the field.

Now on to the next big topic, accessories! Insta360 has some the best accessory offerings and it’s the main reason I have stuck with their products. The Ace Pro 2 can be setup for your exact usage needs. They have dive cases, special cradles/cases, various mounts and even remotes, and wireless Bluetooth options for mic options, which they continue to improve upon. I do recommend their accessories as their products are usually high quality, especially when you use them as they’re meant to be used. I do want to mention the Ace Pro 2’s biggest flaw, that being its standard lens was not designed for close-ups/macro. However, there’s a work around for that so don’t worry, as they sell close up lenses designed for close-ups or macro.

The Ace Pro 2 is the no brainer choice here. Simply because it’s a newer model and continues to get updates at the time when this article was written. The Ace Pro is still a great camera by its own right, but it quit getting the updates and features needed that the Ace Pro 2 does currently. I currently use both, but the Ace Pro 2 is better at connecting wirelessly and it also has slightly better frame rates and computational AI hardware making it a faster and slightly better in low light. Not to mention it cost around $390/€347 for the base kit and around $450/€401 for the explorer kit at the time of this article. And if you're lucky try to hit the holiday sales and you might just land an even better deal than I found!
